THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER
November is a wonderful month and many people from all a round the world celebrate different days in different ways.

For example, did you know that November 4th is "Mischief Night", an annual tradition in parts of the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States, when people take a degree of licence to play pranks, act out naughty things, and do general mischief in their neighbourhoods

Mischief Night - 4th November each year

Bonfire Night - 5th November each year
And what about November 5th?   Commonly known as "Bonfire Night" in the United Kingdom.   It celebrates the day in 1605 when Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the House of Lords & The Houses of Parliament in London.   It also became infamously known as "The Gunpowder Plot".

Nowadays, bonfires are lit all over the country and fireworks are set off to remember this very special day.   And accompanied, of course, by hot roasted chestnuts and hot toddies!   Yummy! Yummy!

What else?   Well, how about this?

The Loi Krathong Festival

Let's not forget about Asia!   Tuesday, 08 November 2022 is the Loi Krathong Festival.

Banana boats filled with candles, incense, flowers, strands of hair, and coins, are set afloat on all and any waterways, especially in Cambodia and Thailand.

The purpose is to respect the Goddess of Water and to wash away the past year's sins into oblivion.   Lovely!

So some very special days, yes?   And we haven't the space to mention many more!

November is the 11th month of the year in the modern day Gregorian calendar and its predecessor, the Julian calendar.   The month kept its original name from the Latin novem meaning “nine” which marked it the 9th month of the year in the Roman calendar.

November is the eleventh and penultimate month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian Calendars, the fourth and last of four months to have a length of 30 days and the fifth and last of five months to have a length of less than 31 days.   November was the ninth month of the calendar of Romulus c. 750 BC.

Thirty days hath September, April, June, and November, all the rest have thirty-one.

November was the ninth month of the ancient Roman calendar. November retained its name (from the Latin novem meaning "nine") when January and February were added to the Roman calendar.   Therefore, November in the Southern Hemisphere is the seasonal equivalent of May in the Northern Hemisphere and vice versa.

November born babies are either a Scorpio or a Sagittarius.   Those born from the beginning of the month through November 21 are classified as the passionate Scorpio.   Everyone else (born November 22 to the end of the month) are Sagittarius, and they're generous souls with a sense of humor.

The November birth flower is the chrysanthemum.

Each person’s power animal, spiritual animal or totem, is a Native American belief.   They affirm that animals are their guides and protectors and not only beings they lived with.   The Indians use a lunar calendar on the shell of a turtle that had thirteen circles and called it “medicine wheel”.   On this wheel, they represented the elements, the cardinal points, the seasons and a color, relating each circle with an animal, according to their characteristics.

Those born between October 23 and November 22 are related to “the snake” and are often mysterious, affectionate, sensitive people.

Beliefs indicate that those born between November 23 and December 21 are related to the “owl” as a power animal. They are affectionate, friendly and adventurous people; and finally, the people born between December 22 and January 19, have the “goose” as their totem and they are persistent, ambitious, and tenacious people.

In the United States, November is the month that hosts Thanksgiving, a day to reap the harvest and celebrate the community's or family's collective bounty.

November birthdays are associated with two gems; Citrine and Topaz.   The warm color of Citrine is said to be a gift from the sun and it's believed to be a healing gemstone.   Topaz is most desired in its rich orange Imperial Topaz color, but it is found in a variety of rich colors like blue, pink and yellow.
