AMERICAN ENGLISH SPELLINGS

VS

BRITISH ENGLISH SPELLINGS

During the course of copy editing & the proofreading of manuscripts and documents,

invariably the PRS editors are faced with the dilemma of American English or British English

for their editing revisions and corrections.

In many cases, the PRS editors have to ask the Authors' of these papers

"Do you require American English or British English for your manuscript?"

On such a request, the PRS editors are usually informed accordingly.

However, sometimes they are referred to the Publishing House or the Scientific Journal

to ask them which spellings they would prefer for their publication

"American English Spellings - or British English Spellings?"

HAVING RECEIVED THE APPROPRIATE ANSWER, UPON MANY OCCASIONS

THE AMERICAN SPELLING OF A WORD

IS OFTEN QUITE DIFFERENT TO THE BRITISH SPELLING OF THE SAME WORD

HOW TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE?

IS IT AN AMERICAN SPELLING OR A BRITISH SPELLING?

PRS WILL SHOW YOU HOW TO SPOT SOME OF THE DIFFERENCES
(See Below)

As a result of the differences, PRS Proofreading will make a small list of the
Top 150 most commonly used words in writing - with many of them being used in Scientific Manuscripts, Academic Articles and Thesis.

The list is by no means conclusive, but perhaps the Authors of English Manuscripts will begin to use the correct word in their Articles,
whether they are written in American English or written in British English.

Authors often use an American English Spelling when they are writing a British English paper - and vice versa - many Authors will use a British English Spelling when they are writing a Manuscript for an American intended paper.

PLEASE NOTE
A few of these Spellings apply to both American English and British English.

So please do not be shy - if you think of any extra important words with a different English spelling - please let us know.

And if you have any suggestions to add to this list, we will be pleased to include them in this listing.
