ABOUT PRS PROOFREADING SERVICES
Basic Information About PRS Proofreading Services
PRS Proofreading Services is a worldwide online service based in the United Kingdom and in the USA. It has been providing copy editing and proofreading assistance to Scientific Authors, Academics, SME Companies, Businesses, and Individuals since the year 1984. This was before there were computers on sale for the public, and before the Internet - working with sheets of paper and a pencil! Ha! How times have changed for copy editors, proofreaders, and proofreading!
The UK proofreaders and copy editors are all originally from the
United Kingdom - so quite naturally, their mother tongue is British English. Previously however, they have had the experience of working for many years as teachers in the United States of America, so they are also very knowledgeable and familiar with American English grammar, American sayings, and American terminology.
The USA proofreaders and copy editors are all native Americans - so quite naturally, their mother tongue is American English.
As an online service company, PRS has clients from all over the world,
but PRS now mainly specialises in the 'non-native' English speaking
countries - with the majority of our current customers and clients being
domiciled in Asia, South America, Scandinavia, the Middle East, and in the many and various European Territories.
As international business expands and the studying and the writing of the English Language grows, PRS will welcome nationalities from many different additional countries, and PRS shall endeavour to suitably satisfy their English writing requirements.
PRS Proofreading Services has been providing copy
editing and proofreading assistance to Scientific Authors, Academics, SME
Companies, Businesses, and Individuals since the year 1982, before there were
computers on sale to the public and before the Internet - working with sheets
of paper and a pencil!
How times have changed for copy editors, proofreaders, and proofreading!
In 1985, PRS bought the Amstrad PCW (Personal Computer Word Processor) 8512, with Locoscript Word Processing Programme (Software), and the accompanying Printer. For its time, it was very advanced. You could type, cut and paste, edit, and print documents. Even inserting the Text from paper-written text into the documents that were subsequently filed on the computer's floppy discs. It had 512 Kb RAM to handle bigger documents and two 3″ floppy disk drives. These PCW systems were still being used in 2000 by some people, and a lot of CP/M software is still available.
In 1992, PRS upgraded to Windows 3.1 (Windows 3.1 system requirements: 100% IBM compatible personal computer. 80386 or higher processor aka a “386” system. 2MB or better RAM. 8MB Hard disk drive space)
In September 1995, PRS upgraded to Windows 95 (Internet Explorer 3.0 ran on Windows 3.1, Windows 95). Twenty-eight years ago, in 1995, the Internet only had 10 million active users. Only 35 million people used email. To most Americans, the Internet was a strange thing they'd been hearing more about in the media and in movies, like Sandra Bullock's 1995 thriller, "The Net."
In November 2001, PRS upgraded to Windows XP.
In October 2009, PRS upgraded to Windows 7.
